[Guy would be lying if he said that he was unaffected. He was trying to hold everything together in the wake of losing his best friend, but it was hard to catch a break. Between Badaq's betrayal and busting out of the Renegade facility, he had no idea what he was doing. None of them did. And now, the Rheiards they'd used to cross to the other world were completely useless. They were out of fuel and out of ideas.
All that was left... was to head to the capital of Sylvarant. It was in much better shape than Tethe'alla. They could find answers there, couldn't they? Anise seemed sure of it. One thing was for sure: staying here wouldn't help Luke or anybody.
The small party made their way toward the coastal capital of Palmacosta. The grass was so much greener here, even though there were more people around and more thieves. It really felt alive. Natalia kept stealing glances at Luke as they went, as if he might suddenly snap out of it and look at her and smile, but he never did. At the very least, she'd stopped trying to call out to him. Tear was much more reserved. Guy could tell she was troubled, but she kept it inside and tried to fill the stern, soldierly spot that Badaq had left. Anise walked ahead. She seemed eager to get home, maybe too eager, or maybe just nervous.
And Luke-- Luke didn't seem bothered by anything. There wasn't even a faint smile on his face. His wings were out and he simply followed them without asking, without stopping, without sitting down when they paused to rest. He was like a doll.
Guy's grip on his sword tightened at the thought.]
Someone's behind us, [Tear warned.
Guy turned. There were shadows in the little valley below, but he could barely make them out. They didn't seem numerous enough to be a threat, at least.] Doesn't seem like the Renegades or the Desians. Maybe they're gypsies?
[Anise had an opinion.] We should keep going! You want to help Luke, right?
[Natalia resisted, sort of offended too.] Yes, of course! However, these people might need our help.
[And so, they waited. Guy slid down the hill a few steps, to see if he could meet them halfway.]

On the inside, however, things are much different. Luke is here, alive and watching, but he seems to be chained to something.]
Asch? Can you-- can you hear me?
no subject
This Guy probably thinks he's crazy now. Oh well.]
Yes. Not as mindless on the inside, obviously.
[That's half-directed at the rest of the group gathered around them. And no, he's not going to explain it right now.]
no subject
[Well hey what do you know that wasn't even a lie even if it left out details! As for the glowing? He'll shrug]
It's...some sort of mind thing that Asch can do. I don't really know much about it, but sounds like he got into contact with Luke.
no subject
So Luke's still in there.
[He's relieved, but to be a prisoner in his own body? That's gotta be terrifying.]
... If he needs a Keycrest, I'm sure we can find someone who will make one.
no subject
You really can hear me! I'm-- I'm glad we got to meet again. I'm sorry it has to be like this. [He shakes his head.] Right now, I'm something awful. I'm like a machine built for killing.
I can hear and see everything, so please... I don't want to hurt anyone.
no subject
[It's a little gentler than it might have been, their first meeting. He's trying not to think about that feeling of being trapped.]
Looks like I'm going to be speaking for you for a while.
[He sounds disgruntled, but he's not letting that connection go. There's a few things he couldn't subject anyone to, and this is one of them. If Luke's paying attention to that connection, there's a bit of nausea that's quickly pushed down.]
no subject
...Yeah. He's in there alright.
[He rather not say anything more than that. He only remembers the stuff that Colette told him, the stuff Mithos would threaten...and well, it was more than enough to give him nightmares]
There's gotta be someone who can. We get him one, and he'll be alright again.
no subject
And then he realizes what he's doing and kind of sprints off to stand next to Kaneis OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD.]
Guy! What are you doing?
Y-y-you're not supposed to touch him! Remember what happened to the Renegades? He'll be better soon, as long as we get him a keycrest!
[Comedic moment aside, he tries to collect himself and his damn gynophobia so that he can take this seriously.]
Luke. If you can hear me, we're going to help you no matter what it takes. Don't worry about Tethe'alla or the Desians or anything. We're going to find a way to fix this. Okay?
no subject
[Luke is so thankful. He feels like he could cry. It's ridiculous, how much emotion he's had to bottle up since the journey began. And here, his brother is going to help him-- even if it's not his brother. God, what if he did die? What if his brother never forgives him?
... He can't think about that right now. Luke makes a visible effort to steel himself, at least to Asch.]
... Thank you. I know it's not something you have control over, but it means a lot that you're here. It means a lot that you're helping us, even though you don't know my friends. Even though I'm making you suffer, too...
[If only he could reach out. He lifts his hand again, but there's probably no feasible way that he can jump bodies. Not with his soul chained like this.]
I'm sorry.
no subject
Don't apologize for things you can't control.
[Really, though, that's about all he can handle of ghosting the sensation of being trapped. Asch comes back to himself with a fierce shake of his head, not quite closing the connection entirely but distinctly distancing himself to talk to the others.]
He can hear everything, you know. Probably better than you can.
[And not saying a word about Guy's phobia, nope. He's kind of shaky and panicky himself, although it's harder to notice.
Ah, well, everyone except Kaneis will probably take it for some form of illness anyway.]
no subject
[WHAT THE HELL GUY SHE DIDN'T EVEN TOUCH HIM. Goddess this is a weird group, he'll try to shake it off and even be nice enough not to shove Guy away ] But yeah, he's right my dear. Don't touch him.
[And oh yeah, he's noticing Asch's shakiness- willing to bet what it's from. He's also very much aware Luke can hear him. It was like Colette after all. But he's...well, never been good with consoling stuff. It's not like he knew if they could find a keycrest crafter or not. And so-]
...We should get moving.
no subject
[After Guy is sure that his heart rate isn't going to end up in a trip to the doctor, he takes his place a bit closer to Luke. Still avoiding Natalia, though.]
Sorry about that.
But you're right. We should get moving. Anise said that Palmacosta is the capital, so I'm sure we can learn something.
no subject
WHAT DID YOU JUST CALL HER?
[Kaneis. Kaneis no. Stop now before someone gets hurt.
On the bright side, at least it distracts him from impending traumatic flashbacks.]no subject
[Or at least he would be if he cared. Instead he'll just smiiiiile at Asch]
Oh whoops- sorry hunny! Slip of the tongue! Don't fret, I swear I only have eyes for you! ♥
[And with a snicker, he's moving to start walking in the direction that is possibly Palmacosta. Come on they don't have time to waste!]
no subject
I feel like I'm missing something here.
[Judging by the expression of everyone else in the party (Luke notwithstanding), they do too.]
no subject
What are you waiting for, get moving!
[It's mostly cover - he's still shooting Kaneis a look. The sentiment of "I am going to punch you so hard, the bastards you doubtlessly littered around your homeworld will feel it" can probably be felt by Luke across the connection, even as distant as Asch is. He falls into line with the others soon enough, though, frequently glancing at one or the other of the other two redheads as they walk.
The almost aimless way Luke floats along... It gives him a bit of a queasy feeling just to watch, knowing that there's someone in there, knowing that if it weren't for one idiot, it would have been some version of him.]
no subject
[And he keeps walking. He knows Asch is watching between him and Luke. He tries very hard not to look at Luke himself. He's not going to address Asch unless he does, since hey- there is nothing good he can say about all this that he hasn't already said]
[And thus, he keeps walking towards that city.]
no subject
Palmacosta looks like it belongs to a bygone royal era. There are guards posted at the entrance, surrounded by beautiful stone walls and banners no one has ever seen before. The city is built a bit higher than the one in declining Sylvarant, and the school has been turned into an all-out research facility in its own part of town. There are a few ships sitting in port; they look sleeker than any steam-powered boat Tethe'alla could come up with.
Anise gets them inside and then rapidly departs, citing that she has to meet up with a friend, and they can talk at the inn tonight. That leaves the Tethe'allans and their offworlder friends to do whatever they like.
Guy turns to face the party.]
I'm not sure who we can get information from in this town, so we should split up and talk to everyone. We'll cover more ground that way.
no subject
[He doesn't exactly like leaving Luke being a zombie, but if there's anyone he can trust the idiot with, it's Guy.
And he and Zelos need to have words. Like, immediately. The guy should be glad Asch didn't grab his arm as he stalks off into the crowd.]
no subject
[But he'll listen to Asch and Guy, nodding]
Alright. We'll seeya later.
[And he's heading off with Asch in the direction that he chooses. Yeah. He knows he's going to have words]
no subject
Once they're sufficiently out of the way? Asch wheels on his companion, utterly furious.]knew this would happen!
no subject
Well, I wasn't sure they'd make to to Sylvarant- but yeah. I knew.
wow html fail up there
[Pissed doesn't begin to cover it really. It's not even that it's Luke - it wouldn't have mattered who.
He pulls his arm back and throws all his weight into slugging Zelos in the jaw.]
And you said I was selfish?
no subject
[But he'll look right back at him]
Well, you are - but that's besides the point right now.
[he moves his hand to rub his jaw]
I never said I decided to just let it happened, just that I knew. It's a lot more complicated than that.
no subject
[No less pissed off for introducing his knuckles to Kaneis' face, clearly.]
If you knew, you should have told him! Do you understand in the slightest how much suffering you could have stopped, if you removed your head from your ass for a minute?
