[Guy would be lying if he said that he was unaffected. He was trying to hold everything together in the wake of losing his best friend, but it was hard to catch a break. Between Badaq's betrayal and busting out of the Renegade facility, he had no idea what he was doing. None of them did. And now, the Rheiards they'd used to cross to the other world were completely useless. They were out of fuel and out of ideas.
All that was left... was to head to the capital of Sylvarant. It was in much better shape than Tethe'alla. They could find answers there, couldn't they? Anise seemed sure of it. One thing was for sure: staying here wouldn't help Luke or anybody.
The small party made their way toward the coastal capital of Palmacosta. The grass was so much greener here, even though there were more people around and more thieves. It really felt alive. Natalia kept stealing glances at Luke as they went, as if he might suddenly snap out of it and look at her and smile, but he never did. At the very least, she'd stopped trying to call out to him. Tear was much more reserved. Guy could tell she was troubled, but she kept it inside and tried to fill the stern, soldierly spot that Badaq had left. Anise walked ahead. She seemed eager to get home, maybe too eager, or maybe just nervous.
And Luke-- Luke didn't seem bothered by anything. There wasn't even a faint smile on his face. His wings were out and he simply followed them without asking, without stopping, without sitting down when they paused to rest. He was like a doll.
Guy's grip on his sword tightened at the thought.]
Someone's behind us, [Tear warned.
Guy turned. There were shadows in the little valley below, but he could barely make them out. They didn't seem numerous enough to be a threat, at least.] Doesn't seem like the Renegades or the Desians. Maybe they're gypsies?
[Anise had an opinion.] We should keep going! You want to help Luke, right?
[Natalia resisted, sort of offended too.] Yes, of course! However, these people might need our help.
[And so, they waited. Guy slid down the hill a few steps, to see if he could meet them halfway.]

Regardless, he's once again stuck with Kaneis in an unfamiliar place, full of almost-familiar people, with an endless tower on the horizon. And he's seriously displeased by the entire string of events.
By this point, though, his hearing is starting to get good enough to pick out the familiar voices further up the hill as he's sitting up, and he automatically looks in that direction.]
Sounds like company.
[And he'll be standing up on his guard, because even if those voices are familiar -
Well, better to be careful, anyway.]
no subject
[But he'll hear Asch mention something, and the words himself. He turns to look and...wow. Those are definitely wings on one of the figures. ]
[His hand will move to the hilt of his sword, but he'll be on a less guard position than Asch]
Yeah. Seems so. I don't think they're bandits.
no subject
No way.
No way.
He continues forward, this time at a more cautious pace. When he's within earshot, he calls out:]
Asch! Is that you?
no subject
Wait, Guy?
ABORT ABORT ABORT
Asch spins on his heel instantly, hair flying - oh, right. It's this world's Guy. There is a bit less confusion now. The redhead (one of many) hmphs, sheathing his sword to fold his arms over his chest.]
Yes and no.
[Not this shit again. And looking farther up the hill - he can just barely make out the glow of some angel's wings. It's not very hard to guess.]
no subject
[Fuck. So much for hoping it was Lloyd's Sylvarant. But what was this group doing here? Last time, they were in Tethe'alla-]
[To Asch:]
You explain this time.
[he is too busy trying to sort things out]
no subject
Guy is still searching Asch, though. He's dressed weird, and he's talking even weirder. Though he seems like he doesn't want to talk to Guy at all which is... normal. Still. What a weird answer.]
Don't tell me something's happened to Asch, too.
[It's not a joke-- Guy looks pensive, even a bit angry.]
no subject
[Not his division. And Kaneis, he'll pluck your wings for that later. There's some irony in explaining things to Guy of all people.
He should've figured that Luke wouldn't say anything, but why isn't he coming down here to placate his guard dog of a best friend?]
Get the rest of them down here, I'm not repeating myself.
no subject
[That doesn't make any sense. And Guy, who has seen more than enough stress, decides not to mince words. He's not sure if he can trust this guy Asch is with, or if he can trust Asch, seeing as Asch has always kind of disliked him.
Kind of? More like hated extremely. He knew why, too, and never fought it.
But this isn't about him. It's about Asch's safety, and Luke's, and figuring out how to help. So Guy turns and waves at his companions on the hill. They hesitate. Natalia is the first to come down, followed by Tear and Anise. Luke floats like it isn't even a big deal. His feet barely touch the ground. As they near the redheads, two things became evident: the first being that Luke isn't really there. His eyes are completely blank, an uncharacteristically red color like that of his Cruxis Crystal. Secondly, Natalia-- despite her strange attire-- has recognized Asch and is heading straight for him. Anise and Tear hang back; Tear's only met Asch once and it seems like Natalia has it handled anyway.]
Asch! What are you doing?! You should be resting!
[Guy turns and tries to stop her, but she's faster than he is, and goes straight for the Bossy Princess In Face approach.]
Natalia--
What are these clothes? These aren't befitting of the Chosen of Tethe'alla at all! Where did you get that sword? Where is your medication? Where is your escort? Honestly!
Natalia.
[This is going to be a long day.]
no subject
It's a lot easier to not react with awkward when she thinks he's someone else. Must be how Luke feels all the time.]
I'm not your Asch, this is a uniform, the sword is a story for later, I don't take any medication, and if you call Kaneis my escort he'll probably laugh in your face.
[There, that handles all the questions, right? Right. And hey he even managed to introduce his not friend, good job Asch.
He reaches up and runs one hand through his hair with an annoyed noise.]
We're from a different world. Looks like we wound up here by accident again.
[Yeah, he's not happy about that.]
no subject
[But while Asch explains, he won't even bother to acknowledge the other people to head over to Luke. He'll stop short of being a few feet in front of him, having learned better from the time he got too close to a Chosen in this state (let's not get thrown today). Wings out, red eyes...it was just like Colette.]
[When they were sent back to Exsilium suddenly, he had been so sure that this kid would be dead not long from there. He can't help but breath a small sigh of relief to see otherwise. There was still a chance]
[But he'll finally address the group, not really giving a damn if their own story is clear or not]
How'd you guys get to Sylvarant?
no subject
You're... what?
But, Asch... All of us are from Tethe'alla. Of course you're from a different world. Unless...
[Guy steps a little closer, arms crossed.]
Asch is saying he's not from Tethe'alla at all. That's a little hard to believe-- except that we didn't know about the world next to ours until a couple days ago. How can we be sure there isn't another world that isn't Sylvarant or Tethe'alla?
[Finally, Kaneis asks a question. Guy looks at him.]
We flew using something called a Rheiard, but they ran out of fuel and crashed a ways from here.
no subject
Technically speaking, he's from Tethe'alla - [That with a thumb jerked towards Kaneis.] - but it's a different one from yours, anyway. My world is called Auldrant.
[Whether they believe it or not - up to them, really. Asch is going to turn away to join his companion on the Luke inspecting front.]
So what happened to him?
no subject
[And hey, now he'll actually contribute to the conversation]
Final stages of Angel Toxicosis, as we'd call it. Or what happens at the final seal on the Journey of Regeneration- when a Chosen gives up their heart and memory.
[His arms cross, he'll bother to look at the group and away from Luke]
He needs a keycrest. Can any of you make them?

LATER, AT THE INN
A keycrest... It looks like it's half-broken.
[He turns it over in his hands.]
I'm good with machines, but I'm not really much of a craftsman. I'd feel safer if we got an expert before we put it on Luke.
no subject
An expert, huh. He snorts slightly.]
Try asking around after a man named Jade Curtiss. If nothing else, he's likely to be able to point you in the right direction.
[Casual spoiler is casual.]

I heard mention of a dwarf living near Iselia that might know stuff about them too. It'd be a long trip though.
no subject
[Anise looks... suddenly uncomfortable.]
Oh, um, we're going to Iselia? Why don't we talk to Professor Curtiss first? Maybe he knows where the dwarf lives, too!
[Guy eyes her with some suspicion, but she shrugs it off with a winning smile.]
Where can we find this guy?
He's probably working in the university right now. He's the only elf who cares to live with humans, so his research keeps him really busy.
no subject
Sounds incredibly typical of him. Hopefully the chance to poke at an angel or two will entice him out of the lab.
[Yes, Zelos, you're the or two. Asch casts his eyes to Luke's corner.]
But I think that should be his decision.
[Suddenly glowing! Good thing they're not in public.]
no subject
[But sure, he'll wait on Asch to do his talky thing.]
Hang in there, Luke.
no subject
Asch...
[It means a lot that he'll come talk to him, even knowing how it affects him.]
Thank you.
Um, about the lab thing... I don't want anyone to be uncomfortable, and I don't want to hurt someone by accident. So I trust Kaneis. Iselia might be a long way from here, but I'll be fine.
no subject
[The glow flickers away, and Asch shakes his head slightly.]
He wants to go to Iselia, so that he doesn't hurt anyone in the city by accident.
[How typical, but he doesn't really blame him.]
no subject
Iselia it is.
[Of all places, he'd go back to. He tries to dismiss any passing thoughts that Lloyd could be there- instead focusing on thinking back on the stories that the others would give on the first part of their journey. It'd sure be easier if they had working rheairds- but Volt's probably back in Tethe'alla and Sheena wasn't here.]
I guess we can check to see if there's boat that goes near there. Otherwise it's going to Izoold and walking from from there. [uuuugh deserts]
no subject
I'm sure Professor Curtiss can help! Can we at least go talk to him? Pretty please? ♥
[Dear god.]
Y-yeah, sure, whatever! And then we'll go to Iselia so-- just let go already! [Anise giggles and lets go. Guy tries to get a hold of himself.] A-anyway. This place has a huge port. I'm sure we can find a boat.
[AND THEN A TIMESKIP HAPPENED. Turns out there are boats. Renting one is kind of expensive, but Jade uses his ~connections~ to waive the fee. Thus, they get a cool little Exsphere-powered boat that is nothing like a washtub. There's a dock near Iselia-- thank the Goddess-- and soon it's only a stretch of forest between them and the ... sort of village.
It's serene enough of a walk, but Anise looks beside herself. Jade, however, seems pleased. It isn't often he gets to visit such an out of the way place. Iselia is a sprawling city spanning from the woods to the cliffs. All the stones of the buildings are whitewashed so that they don't clash with the elaborate Martel Temple. This village's biggest commodity is natural resources, particularly the mines close to the town.
Guy sticks close to Luke, making sure he doesn't go floating off down the hill or something.]
This must be it.
no subject
[For his part, Asch has spent the journey bouncing between being angry at everything, picking Jade's brain, and keeping Luke from getting too trapped in himself. Notably, he's bothered with his off-world companion hardly at all.
For right now, he's perched at the edge of the boat, arms slung over the railing.]
I'm surprised I'm even still here.
no subject
[Seeing Iselia so different only serves to confirm that. It didn't ache as much as Meltokio being such a foreign city to him, but even so? He could feel that little bit of his heart that had hoped that Dirk and Lloyd would be here sink as he sees the sprawling city. ]
...Yeah.
[He moves to keep heading into the city. Find the dwarf, get the keycrest. He can handle that, just try not to think about home. ]
