[It was supposed to be training.
Training didn't mean giving your teacher head injuries. Riku was unsure enough about how to teach someone else as it was, and he was pretty lacking in the self-esteem department. Add in a hefty concussion on top of it, and he was sure to be spooked off being a Keyblade Master for at least four weeks.
He doesn't remember pushing Kairi out of the way of that falling pillar. He doesn't remember reprimanding Lea and Sora just minutes beforehand for horseplay. He doesn't remember anything.
He realizes this just as he wakes up in a strange place (that feels oddly familiar). Something bothers him. He wiggles his toes, and discovers it's because he's wearing socks in bed. This place has a cozy feel about it, like... a treehouse? He puzzles at the light slanting into the doorway and the voices he can hear outside.
Waves on the shore, the call of seagulls. It seems nice, but he can't lay around forever. He sits up, intending to crawl off the bedroll and explore. A wave of dizziness and pain shoots through him, making him groan, and he claps a hand to his temple.]
Bandages...?
[Well... that explains some things.]

[Since they got back, the two had been taking turns staying at Riku's side. It just happened to be Sora's turn when he woke up. Sora had been close to dozing off, but became awake and alert the moment he heard his friend and movement]
Riku! You're awake!

Who's Riku...?
[Oh boy.]
no subject
[Okay,he wasn't expecting THAT reaction. So much that he just scowls and assumes Riku is fucking with him. Because anger is totally a valid response to confusion right??]
Oh c'mon- don't joke around! Kairi and I were really worried!
no subject
Sorry, I don't...
[He shakes his head slowly, then hides his face in his hand.]
Nothing's making sense.
no subject
What?
[The anger leaves his face, instead worry comes in]
What do you mean, Riku? What's not making sense?
no subject
[He peeks at the worried boy across from him.]
What's... your name? It might help me remember.
no subject
...It's Sora.
no subject
Sora.
[He feels like that name is familiar, closer than his own. For a brief moment, he feels like-- like he's reaching out, trying to grasp someone in the darkness, trying to... grab his hand?
Pain streaks through his vision, white lightning against the backs of his eyelids. He curls up, gasping, trying not to aggravate this any further.]
I-- remember, a little. What happened?
no subject
[He leans forward, concerned when he curls up and gasps. His hand over above Riku, like he wants to grab onto him to make sure he's okay- but he's afraid that he might hurt him instead]
It-
It was an accident, during training. A pillar fell down and you pushed Kairi out of the way and got hit instead.

Sora and Kairi.
He's not sure why, but he feels like he'd do anything for them.]
Is she okay? [he asks through his teeth, waiting for the pounding to stop.]

Sorry about... all of this. I'm sure it's just temporary.
[He rubs his hand down his leg, trying to see if he got any more bruises anywhere else.]
I know it's there. It's like when you have a word on the tip of your tongue, but it's... a memory.
